Air Force Academy

The Air Force Academy is one of 5 United States service academies. Since 1959 it has been graduating cadets that serve in the United States Air Force and now the United States Space Force.

There is climbing on the Academy and accessed through the USAFA property. Over time the USAFA Mountaineering and Climbing Clubs have developed many of the crags and produced solid climbs for the grades. There is also bouldering to be found as part of this area.

Location and Access

The Air Force Academy is just north of Colorado Springs on I-25. There are two may gates that are accessed from I-25, the North and South Gates. Currently only DOD ID holders can access the academy via both gates. Visitors are required to use the South Gate.

While at time the general public is allowed access to USAFA it’s more often that you have to be a DOD ID holder or be sponsored by an eligible DOD ID holder in order to get on to the facility. You should have a plan before driving up there.
