Bear Creek Canyon Park

Bear Creek Canyon Park is a high-country park that encompasses where Bear Creek comes down out of the front range mountains. It is bordered by Section 16 and Red Rock Canyon Open Space to the north and North Cheyene Canyon to the south.

Dakota Hogback and the Pigtail are the two formations in the eastern part of the park that have quality climbs on them. There is more rock inside the park but likely nothing worth putting a route on. There could be some bouldering scattered around but nothing has been documented yet.

The formation is Dakota Sandstone so give it a few days to dry out after rain or snow. It can be fragile when wet.

Location and Access

Gold Camp Road and/or Bear Creek Road will take you to the park. Bear Creek connects to many other trail systems so you could hike or bike in from many other places if you wanted to.

The best way to access the crag is to hike in on Stephanie’s Trail. The Hogback and the Pigtail are pretty easy to find after a short walk up the trail.
