Old Stage Road

Old Stage Road is a long dirt road that runs from western Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek. It leaves town between South Cheyenne Canyon and Cheyenne Mountain and winds its way west along the southern flanks of Pike’s Peak. There is a lot of rock in this area from mediocre to superb in quality.

This is adventure climbing even at the developed crags. The road can be rough and slow. Approaches can include steep bushwacks with no real trails, and there can be sparse beta on areas and routes. In other words, it’s fantastic!

Location and Access

Old Stage Road is accessed off of W Cheyenne Blvd and Penrose Blvd when coming from Colorado Springs. It can also be accessed off of Hwy 81 when coming from Divide or Cripple Creek. Most of the time the road is accessible by any 2-wheel drive vehicle with even the slightest clearance. After significant weather or heavy use, it can get surprising rough in places.  There are a few spots on the road that are amazingly treacherous when there is the slightest bit of snow or ice.

Most of the land along the road is Forest Service but there is some private property, and the most eastern part of the road is part of Colorado Springs.
